Rochester’s Tom Finucane Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (the Irish Musicians Association) now operates a lending library of traditional instruments that are available to be borrowed by CCE local members for a set period of time. This may be to try a new instrument, to start a child on an instrument, or for any reason.
Borrowing. Instruments may be borrowed for a period of three months, and may be borrowed for additional time if the instrument has not been requested by another member.
The borrower is required to sign a contract and is responsible for any damage beyond normal wear-and-wear. In a few cases, borrowers may be expected to provide basic maintenance to the instrument (restringing guitars, etc.) before returning it.
Donating/Loaning. Do you have a traditional instrument that is no longer being used? This includes guitars, children’s old violins, and silver flutes. Donate it to CCE Rochester—you can help start the next generation of musicians and even declare it as a tax deductible donation! If you have an instrument you are willing to donate or if you know someone else who may be able to help, please email Mark Gowman or call him at (585) 217-6076. Instruments can be brought to East Rochester High School or other arrangements can be made. We can also arrange a pick-up if needed.
If you have an instrument that is currently unused but may be in the future, we invite you to provide it to us as a temporary loan. We will also gladly accept any monetary donations that are earmarked for the instrument lending library—either to save toward a purchase or toward maintenance costs.
Our Current Collection, as of March 2012
